Bloc Party
S/T
Dim Mak
Is it too premature to invoke Franz Ferdinand's name as a reference point on par with the giants of the rock n roll canon? Possibly. But dammit if we can't call them the commercial leaders of the punk-funk renaissance (or at least the pop-infused strand of it). Soon to be battling with them for world supremacy is British quarter Bloc Party a.k.a. Your New Favorite Band Whose EP You Will Not Stop Playing and Talking About. Five songs and a remix. 22 minutes. That's all it will take for the growing symptoms of obsession to kick in as you impatiently foam at the mouth waiting for next year's full-length release. Like Franz, they have the pulsating, dance floor-ready groove, angular guitars and arty lyrics down. Throw in a little bit of Damon Albarn's voice and, on “She's Hearing Voices,” Joy Division atmospherics, and your new favorite band is out there awaiting your listen.
